- HW: Print out Course Expectations and Parent Letter; Supplies, letter, Pre-AP Contract (Spanish available here), and Freshman Packet Letter due September 4 for a grade (Due next Thurs; 9 items)
- Review course expectations (Keep in front of binder) / Course Expectations Quiz (grade)
- Noun Notes (Common, proper, abstract, concrete, collective). Store under "Grammar" tab.
- HW: None
- Read excerpt from The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens; discuss unit theme (Identity and Sense of Self).
- Review levels of questioning with the excerpt; discuss.
- HW: Capitalization practice, WriteSource workbook, pgs. 41-46 (Box in concrete nouns, circle the abstract). Due tomorrow.
- HW: Make up Course Expectations Quiz before Friday (Keep graded quiz in back of course expectations)
- Review capitalization HW. Keep in notebook under "Grammar" tab.
- Begin reviewing literary elements with literary elements notes and PPT (fill in notes using PPT; make sure to come up with your own examples). Fill in characterization section (indirect/direct characterization, round/flat characters.). Keep in notebook under "Reading" tab.
- Read "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" and compose 4 original dialectical journal (D.J.) entries. What inferences do you make about Walter as a character? Directions for the dialectical journal and example are located here.
- HW: Finish "SLOWM" D.J. at home if necessary.
- Preliminary supplies check (grade; students have until Sept. 4th to turn in everything)
