- Read and discuss the persuasive article "Libraries Face Sad Chapter" which starts on p. 529 of the Literature book.
- Take notes over rhetorical analysis of the article (ethos, pathos, and logos) using the chart below (See file section)
- Finish yesterday's notes (See PPT below)
- Use notes to construct a Rhetorical Analysis Essay (See sample below; we wrote this essay as a class and walked through the process step by step; the next one will be individually written)
- Finish reading "The Land of the Dead" Section in The Odyssey; we took notes over the action so far in The Odyssey (See below)
- Read this persuasive piece (click here for the link)
- In that article, highlight sentences that build logos in one color, ethos in another color, and pathos in another color (Make sure to create a key at the top so that you remember what each color means; some sentences may get highlighted in two colors.)
- Create a thesis that analyses the effectiveness of this piece rhetorically (Tomorrow, you will be writing an essay like the one from yesterday). Below is the thesis we came up with in class; we wrote this thesis on the bottom of the article in the blank space at the bottom:
TH:
- Using yesterday's notes and thesis, write an individual rhetorical analysis. Again, the essay is basically three short answers, each paragraph discussing ethos, then pathos, then logos. If you need to see a sample, there is one below (see files section).
- Begin reading the tale of the Sirens from The Odyssey
- Read until the end of Part I of The Odyssey
- Quiz over Part I (You may use notes)
