- Warm-Up (See file below)
- Write rhetorical analysis of "Libraries Face Sad Chapter" (See file below for the original piece).
- Only write the paragraph that you need most practice with (Either ethos, pathos, or logos, but not all three). Use the paragraph frame (below) to guide your paragraph, and make sure to point out vocabulary from the Venn Diagram (below as well) when you're analyzing your quotes/commenting on them.
- Begin discussing Syntactical Terms (handout below) and writing down the effect of each device as discussed in class.

- Review exemplary paragraphs from rhetorical analysis of "Libraries Face Sad Chapter"
- Finish Syntactical Terms notes/discussion (up to polysyndeton)
- Practice: Collect 10 famous quotes that use these devices. For each quote, discuss whether any of the devices covered so far (Asyndeton through Polysyndeton on the handout) are present in the quote, how you know, and what is the effect of the device/why did the author use it.

- Analysis of STAAR Persuasive Essays (Read the essays in groups, score them, and justify your score with a 10 line paragraph that includes specific evidence (quotes) from the text on a separate sheet of paper (Refer to basic elements of essay structure as well as rhetorical appeals; see using the appeals web file below or consult your notes). Your scoring will be graded on accuracy, so you need to try to score them as best as you can. Finish for homework and turn in tomorrow. (See file below for the file containing the essays.)
- Turn in your copies of The Odyssey

- Discuss yesterday's essays and why each essay was given the score it received.
- Rewrite the score point 3 essay, Persuasive-10 (See file below), so that it becomes a 4. Infuse more pathos (diction, imagery, figurative language, and details; more engaging introduction) into the original. You will be given more class time to do this on Monday to finish.
